I eat certain foods because I either like their taste or need their nutrients. I do indulge in some of my “comfort foods” once in a while – biscuits and pastries rich in sugar and the potato chips with salt flavor, but I usually favor foods that help the body to be healthy. Thus, I´d write in this section on ”Food and Health” mostly about common foods or food combinations that are known to help the body to repair or maintain itself and be in balance.

I am also curious about the taste, origins, and composition of food ingredients and food products that are easily available in supermarkets and groceries. Thus, some of my articles in this section will tackle these.

I have started to like cooking ever since I´ve moved to Norway while I´ve always been a fan of technology-enhanced products, so I´d also be writing about kitchen products that work as their brochures promise as well as technology-enhanced kitchen utensils and gadgets.

In the long-run when I´d have reorganized my kitchen here in Norway such that I´d have more space on the countertops, I´d try to publish some of my favorite recipes or broadcast some short video clips on healthy or tasty recipes I might be inspired to prepare once in a while.

I´m not a fan of either purely plant-based diets or meat-based diets since I believe eating balanced diets is the key to achieving sustainable equilibrium in the body. I eat whatever I crave for, but try not to overeat. I consciously vary the foods I eat daily, since I am aware that too much of any nutrients can be dangerous. For example, I still remember having read somewhere that eating too much spinach day in and day out, can damage the kidneys.

I put much efforts to preventing body malaise and other serious health problems, because I don´t like the idea of having to drink commercial and/or maintenance medicines to regulate, for example, my blood pressure. I have seen how years of unbridled food binges for salty or sweet foods, or eating too much carbohydrate-rich or fatty foods, can eventually weaken the body and organs like the heart, like what happened to my mother.

For the same reason, I watch how my body and weight react to my food intake. I weigh almost daily and check my blood pressure with a digital blood pressure monitor at home, especially when I feel ”unwell” without any fever or cold. I also schedule regular check ups with the doctor (regular general practitioner) and ask for blood chemistry tests at least once a year.

So far, so good, knock on wood – I don´t yet take any maintenance medicines to regulate various bodily functions. As to how long I´d manage to do this is uncertain. I only take Vitamin D tablets and Omega 3 capsules to make up for the lack of sunlight in Norway. People with lighter skins don´t need much sunlight to produce Vitamin D naturally, but people with darker skins like me need much sunlight to produce Vitamin D naturally. Vitamin D is necessary to maintain healthy bones and teeth. I´d write separate articles on Vitamin D, since it is also said to protect the body against cancer, type 1 diabetes, and multiple sclerosis.

My focus on food and health and search for natural means to preventing diseases is something that may also be of use to others. Let´s see what articles on food and health I would be inspired to write about in the coming weeks.
