Loen Skylift is a cable car complex in Loen, near the Hotel Alexandra in the municipality of Stryn, located near the heart of Fjord Norway. Its base starts at the Loen cable car station and ends at the top of Mt. Hoven which is 1011 meters above sea level. A restaurant, viewing deck, and mountain trails are located at the top of Mt. Hoven.
Those who are more physically fit and adventurous can go by foot from the back of the Alexandra Hotel to the top of Mt. Hoven through the Via Ferrata climbing trail or through the Gjømunnebrua bridge, a 120-meter long suspension bridge that is 750 meters above sea level.
My husband and I have tried the cable car route from Loen to the top of Mt. Hoven two times. The tickets pr. person are pricey but the experiences the cable car complex offers are priceless. On one hand, the steep cable car ride shows in real time how counter balancing technology behind the cable car system operates: one car goes up as the other one goes down. On the other hand, the view at the top of the Hoven Restaurant at the top of Mt. Hoven offers many picture-perfect opportunities, including a 210-degree panorama view of the fjord, the nearby mountains, and surrounding areas.
