There are always two sides to each story. If I could tell some stories in a more positive way, would it help others to feel much better, such that they could be inspired to use the talents they have to make the world a better place? This is what I´d try to achieve through this Web site.
I´ve liked hearing or reading all types of stories ever since I was five years old. This is a legacy that Lolo Rufino, my late maternal grandfather has gifted me with. I remember how my brothers and I would ask him to tell us tall tales of heroes and heroines that saved others, or of giant snakes that were both partly human and beast, who needed help to be freed of a curse that made them that way.
To tell my own stories and carry on the storytelling legacy I inherited from Lolo Rufino – while I can, was a major motivation to set up my own Web site in this age and time. I was also getting tired of the negativity, blatant lies, and fake news passed on as ”alternative truths” on some online media and TV channels. I thought: Why not come up with my own site, where I could try to help uphold the truth. I could also make use of the same Web site to spread responsible critical thinking, which offers criticism of what is perceived to be wrong, and then offer alternative solutions to the identified problems.
Prud´s World, as I´ve named the Web site pruds.no, will tackle topics that are near my heart, including the following:
- business and technology, including product reviews in the immediate future
- culture, including literary pursuits in both the fiction and non-fiction genres;
- the environment
- food and health;
- Norway and anything Norwegian;
- the Philippines and anything Filipino, especially the phenomenon and group called ”overseas Filipino workers” (OFWs) and “overseas Filipinos” (OFs), which I now belong to.
I have cultivated much my talents in logic and numbers, and thus, this site would focus more on my other interests and talents that I haven´t given much time and attention to in the past 10 to 15 years since I´ve moved to Norway.
Technology merits a special mention here, since I´ve spent about eight years of my professional life on the information and communications technology (ICT) industry in the Philippines, before I first visited Norway in August 2005 and settled here starting 2006. The time I spent in the Philippines´ ICT sector as a journalist, editor, and manager of a trade publication that had both paper and online versions made me gain the taste for and respect for new technologies. That work experience developed my interest in testing and reviewing new products and technologies, and writing about such. I´d try to do that here in the long-run to satisfy both my curiosity and need to be abreast with how new technologies function and help ordinary people.
This Web site would be updated during my ”free time,” which is after regular working hours here in Norway, that is, after 4 pm from Mondays-Fridays, and during weekends when my husband and I wouldn´t be engaged in private activities for ourselves, family, close friends, and hobbies.
I´d run this Web site for seven years and then evaluate how successful I would be with regard to my main goal: to help the world, especially areas nearest my heart, to become better and happier places. I´d also see how this Web site and my articles and blogs here would help me personally, particularly in making me more satisfied with myself and the world around me. Finally, I´d also try to assess if I´d progress in my efforts to bring out the literary talents I think I have or have I just been hallucinating and dreaming about these.
With this not-so short, but I hope not too long introduction, I welcome you, world – readers everywhere, to ”Prud´s World.” Join me in my seven-year journey that starts now. If you believed there´s no such thing as ”too late,” then it´s also time you to start on the goals and dreams you´ve postponed for a long time. It helps to say out loud: ”I believe I can” whenever you want to do anything that takes much time and efforts to accomplish.
